The interpretation I tend to lead towards based on my reading is the one of a cautionary tale, in which Arnold nous is Satan and Connie is his victim. To me the story depicts fifteen-year old Connie, a typical American girl, who is seduced into what we assume result be her rape and murder. This story uses the attainment of psychological realism, guiding the narrative through Connies consciousness, on with elements of gothic horror, to chilling effect. Connie, instead of joining with Prince Charming as she hoped for ends up with the Prince of Darkness instead. I think that at the end of the story Connie will last lose her life to Arnold Friend which is not but the story of one girls fatal misperception of appearances that too a representation of a loss of honor altogether. overall the story in my opinion is nothing to a greater extent than a feminist tale which suggests that young women of right away and yesterday are headed into sexual bondage.
